The Domestic Sphere, Recent Works in Textiles by Liz Collins
July 22 – September 15, 2022
Southampton, New York: Jeff Lincoln Art + Design presents "Domestic Sphere, Recent Works in Textiles by Liz Collins", a new series of works by the well-known textile artist.
The show title, "Domestic Sphere" reflects the artist's rumination on the concept that working with thread and fabric is "women's work" and the handiwork of the woman as homemaker. In her hands, the textile medium takes on a new power and significance, transcending common perceptions of art and craft.
"Textile works are now prized for their unique manifestations and manipulations of material and are connected to the oldest art forms like tapestry weaving," says the artist. "We see today an explosion of textile making in the context of contemporary art."
Liz Collins is at the forefront of this movement with her unique ever-evolving visions of abstract pattern and form.
She received her BFA and MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work has been exhibited widely in numerous gallery and museum shows, including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Knoxville Museum of Art, The New Museum, the Museum of Modern Art among many others. Through September 15th.
