Jeff Lincoln Art + Design is pleased to present, "Imaginary Landscapes. Paintings by Yuka Kashihara and Ceramic Works by Hun-Chung Lee".

Since 2016, the gallery has mined the liminal space between art and design, and this show is a particularly evocative example. While the Japanese artist Yuka Kashihara and the Korean master ceramicist Hun-Chung Lee have no formal connection, there is a powerful affinity between the work of the two artists. Both share a fascination for the natural landscape, both real and imagined.

Kashihara paints evocative, atmospheric landscapes that are a combination of observed scenes from the natural world and her imagination. "I painted while traveling across mountains, forests and lakes. From the past, I have experienced moments when I feel I am not myself. It is a sensation similar to floating in water, so close yet so far, like someone else's affairs, or the goings on in another world"

Like Kashihara, Hun-Chung considers all his ceramic pieces, while functional and in three dimensional form, as landscapes of the mind. "I have very powerful memories as a small boy of being with my father on boats and the vastness and power of the ocean. In Korea this is known as Bada and all my work is based on the idea of my memories and the landscapes they conjure in my imagination, "the artist says.
