Sarah Wertzberger (b. 1980) is a textile artist and designer known for her colorful works exploring spatial perception, color interaction and the surreal. The work exists at the intersections between weaving, painting, and technology and shifts perceptual values through the manipulation of material and color hierarchies. She is inspired by sixties op art painting, weaving’s relationship to computers and the unknown weavers exploring abstraction since ancient times. She received her MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design and her BFA in painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has exhibited at Spring Break Art Show NY/LA, The Design Center (New York, NY), Holding Contemporary (Portland, OR) and has been a resident at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts (Deer Isle,ME), The Weaving Mill (Chicago, IL), and AZ WEST – Encampment Residency (Joshua Tree,CA).
